Born and raised in Newark, the daughter of Francesco and Maria (Lompart) Calabrese, Sue graduated from East Side High School in 1946. In her early years she worked for Prudential Insurance in Newark and after raising her children became a Librarian at the Township of Union Public Library for 25 years. She was an active parishioner at both Our Lady of Lourdes in Whitehouse Station and St. Michael’s where she also sang in the choir. Sue was a member of the Union Township Library Board, the Red Hat Society, the Columbia Civic and Social Club of Union, the Women’s Club of Union, the Garden Club of Union and the 50 Plus Club of the Chesters. She loved attending musical theater, playing the piano, painting and writing poetry and short stories.

Sue touched the lives of everyone who met her. She was a loving wife to her husband Salvatore, and cherished her children and grandson. She loved being part of the action and was most happy surrounded by family and friends, especially at social gatherings, be it a backyard party or wedding. You only had to ask her once to play a song for you on the piano, and she would happily oblige. She had a contagious smile that she maintained throughout her life, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was incredibly gracious, loved animals, and was charitable and kind.

Sue was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore J. Mauro, loving mother of Pat Mauro and his wife Marilyn, Marysue DePaola and her husband Thomas, and the late Frank Mauro. She was the loving grandmother to James Mauro. Her sister-in-law Rae Padreza, brother-in-law Mario Mauro and many loving nieces and nephews also survive her. She was sister to the late Concetta Lordi and Anna Leo.
