Steven Richard Johe of Chatham, NJ tragically passed away on April 15, 2014 in Oro Valley, Arizona of pulmonary arrest. He was 20. Steven was born on December 2, 1993 in Paterson, NJ. He shared a birthdate with his late father, Peter E. Johe. Steven was the best birthday gift his dad could have imagined. Steven lived in Bloomfield and Sea Girt, NJ before moving to Chatham in 1997. He was a student at the Chatham Public Schools and graduated from Chatham High School in June 2012. Steven enjoyed playing football and wrestling in high school. Steven attended Morris County Community College in Randolph, NJ and was accepted to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Steven was scheduled to begin the summer semester on June 2, 2014. Steven enjoyed traveling and spearheaded a family vacation to Hawaii this past Christmas. That vacation brought wonderful memories of Steven and his love of all things tranquil and beautiful. Steven had traveled to Alaska and most of the 50 states with his family. Steven also enjoyed spending time on the Sea Girt beach and in Coronado, California. He also enjoyed snowboarding in the winter and going to the gym all year round. He was a sensitive young man who was a very introspective and deep thinker. His sense of humor was sharp and dry. He was a huge NY Giants and Virginia Tech football fan. In February 2014, he experienced what he referred to as the best weekend of his life after being front row at the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Brooklyn and attending Super Bowl 2014 at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands with his sister, Meredith, who he loved so dearly. He was an organ donor and his life will carry on with each recipient. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 26th at St Patrick Church in Chatham, NJ at 11am. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Steven is survived by his adoring mother, Jennifer Murray Johe and his loving sister, Meredith Suzanne Johe. Steven’s father, Peter Edwin Johe predeceased him in February 2004. He was also the beloved grandson of Isabelle and Jeremiah Murray, Sea Girt, NJ and Suzanne (deceased) and Richard Johe of Winston-Salem, NC. He will be deeply missed by his aunts and uncles; Julie Murray and Kenny Shinn, Isabelle and Raymond Kayal, Rose Murray, and Barbara and Eli Cardenas and his cousins; Stephanie, Jeremiah, and Isabelle Kayal, Rose, Bobby (deceased), and John Beattie and Elizabeth and Edwin Cardenas, as well as the innumerable extended family and friends he knew and loved in his too short time with us.
