Loving wife and mother

Sandra Ann Thompson passed away on Friday April 1 at the age of 73 surrounded by her family at home in Tequesta, Florida. Born in Jamaica, NY, she resided in Tequesta, FL and Berkeley Heights, NJ. She was the loving wife of George for 50 years. Sandra is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth M. and Roger F. Greene, and her son, Matthew G, brother, Robert Jakubowski, nephew and niece, William and Donna Jakubowski, and her two sisters-in-law, Mary E. Thompson and Katherine G. Thompson.

Sandra graduated from St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY in 1963 with a BS in education. After graduating, she went on to teach first in Valley Stream, NY from 1963-1965 and then in Hamtramack, MI from 1965-1966. From 1966-1969 she continued to teach in Detroit, MI. Her love of teaching did not stop there, Sandra was a teacher volunteer at the Hope Rural School in Indiantown, FL, where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2010 for her work with migrant worker’s children.

Sandra also loved golf and was a member of Canoe Brook Country Club and former Nine Hole Chairman in 1995. While in Florida, she was also a member of the Jupiter Hills Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10:45 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave., Summit. Interment will be at St. Teresa’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 5 from 7-9 pm and Wednesday, April 6 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandra’s memory would be gratefully appreciated to Hope Rural School, 15929 SW 150th Street, Indiantown, FL 34596.
