~~Rochelle Matheu Dempsey, 59 of Summit, NJ, passed on January 8, 2015.

Born in Los Angeles, CA and raised is Short Hills, NJ, Rochelle has lived in Summit, NJ since 1979. She is a graduate of Oak Knoll School in Summit. Rochelle received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Kean University and her M.B.A. in Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Rochelle first worked in the legal department at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. She later began a career as a Realtor and has worked for Lois Schneider Realtors in Summit for 20 years. Rochelle was an avid runner and ran in the New York City Marathon. She was a member of a tennis group, the Amazing Feet Running Club and the Summit Rotary.

Rochelle is survived by three loving children, Jillian Dempsey, Elizabeth Dempsey and Scott Dempsey; her son-in-law, Alex Miller; her husband, Thomas M. Dempsey; and her parents, John and Helen Matheu. She is also survived by her siblings, Brant Miller and his wife Lila; Kathleen Gaynor and her husband Kevin; Christine Matheu; Jeanine Boyll and her husband Scott. Lastly, she is survived by an aunt, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Rochelle was a beloved mother and a pillar of strength for her family and friends. She touched many lives, left the world a better place and had a laugh that lit up the room.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 9:30 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave, Summit. Interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday, 4 to 8 pm, at the Bradley Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 309 Springfield Ave, Summit. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rochelle’s name may be made to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, 575 Woodland Ave, Madison, NJ, 07940.
