Robert W. Halsey

Robert W. Halsey, 88, of Springfield, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ.

Robert was born on May 1, 1927. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren W. and Ruth (nee Maine) Halsey.

Robert served in the United States Navy during World War II where he was stationed in Guam. He was also a Merchant Marine in which he was stationed all over the world. He was a graduate of Rutgers University. He was a life-long member of The First Presbyterian Church in Springfield where he served as an Elder, was President of the Board of Trustees, was involved in the investment cabinet of the church and was very active throughout the years. Robert was also a member of the Springfield Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening, photography and traveling the world. Robert worked for the Port Authority for many years and also worked as a salesman in the insurance industry.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeanne M. Meeker. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Jonathan Meeker and his wife Joan, niece, Kathryn Sanok and her husband Stephen, and nephew, David Meeker and his wife Teri-Lynn. He was the great uncle of Hannah, Henry, and Mary Sanok.

A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at The First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, 210 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name may be made to The First Presbyterian Church in Springfield.
