Richard P. “Richie” Kielty, 73, of Springfield, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, February 01, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Richie was born on December 8, 1944 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Viola (nee Evers) Kielty.
He was a graduate of Essex Catholic High School, Newark, NJ. He served in the National Guard from 1965 to 1971. Richie worked as a fireman in Newark for over 30 years on truck #5.
Richie was an avid sports fanatic in which he liked rooting for the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees. He was a talented athlete in his earlier years and enjoyed playing golf. He loved to read and was an excellent cook.
He was the loving uncle to Jennifer Kielty (Mike), Maureen Kielty (Marty), Thomas Kielty, Tracey Smith (Al), Kevin Kielty (Kathy), Michael Kielty (Kelly) and great uncle to Katie, Aidan, Emma, Lauren and several other great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers; Thomas and Gerald Kielty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 South Springfield Avenue, Springfield, New Jersey 07081. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richie’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project.
