Michael W. Kane, 46, of Summit, NJ passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017.

Mike was born on March 7, 1971 in New York City. He was the beloved son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene and Iris (nee Bourne) Kane. He grew up in Floral Park, NY where he was active in athletics and Boy Scouts, ultimately earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

After graduating from Archbishop Molloy High School in 1989, Mike enrolled at the University of Notre Dame. At Notre Dame Mike became an ardent supporter of the Fighting Irish athletics and was a member of the U.S. Army ROTC. He relished time spent with classmates in Flanner Tower. Upon graduating from Notre Dame in 1993, Mike was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S Army. During his time in the U.S Army, Mike graduated from U.S Army Ranger School and served with the 2nd Armor Division and the 4th Infantry Division as an Armor platoon leader and company executive officer.

Upon honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Mike returned to the New York City area, ultimately settling with his family in Summit, NJ. Mike was a very active member of the Summit community, participating in numerous school and community activities; he was affectionately known around town as “Big Daddy” Kane. He was also a member of the Summit Elks Lodge and parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church.

Throughout his life Mike had two main passions: his family and Notre Dame. He was a doting father of three girls, a supportive uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and loved to follow Notre Dame athletics. He also enjoyed watching the New York Mets and Giants.

Mike is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dana (Parisi) Kane. He was the beloved father of daughters Emily, Sarah and Abigail. In addition, he is survived by siblings Mary Ellen Lepley and husband Tom, Paul Kane and wife Demetra, Margaret McNally and husband Matthew, Thomas Kane and wife Kathleen, Christopher Kane and wife Janine, and his Uncle Jack and Aunt Alice Kane. He is also survived by his in-laws Peter and Frances Parisi, sister-in-law Mindy Cummings and husband Steve, sister-in-law Noelle Dahl and husband Jake, as well as 16 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 12:00 pm at St. Teresa of Avila Church, followed by interment at St. Teresa’s Cemetery 136 Passaic Ave, Summit, NJ. Visiting hours are Friday from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Ave. Summit, NJ.
