~~Maureen Shalaby, 71, of Basking Ridge passed away on April 3, 2016. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Avenue in Short Hills on Thursday, April 7 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Friends are invited to visit at Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave in Springfield on Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 6 from 4-8pm. Born on January 21, 1945, in Flushing, Queens and grew up in Long Island. She went to school at Kean University and Molloy College where she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Education and where she realized her love of teaching.

In 1995, she received an educational grant of $500 so that she could introduce agricultural to the children in New Jersey. She was nominated for Best Teacher and appeared in the Who’s Who of Cambridge for 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.

She spent 42 years teaching and says she attributes her success to her excellent rapport with the children and the compassion she has for them.

She was also the CEO of Shalaby Research Farm Inc. in Basking Ridge.

She loved to travel, visited Egypt twice, and saw the King Tut exhibit at the Cairo Museum. She enjoyed reading, dancing, and her yellow lab dogs. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, Samir Shalaby, and her family members: Barbara Zeh and her husband Roland, Gerri McGuinness and her husband Robert as well as Raof Habashi and his wife, Dr. Loris Abraham, Marina Ibrahim, Karam Ibrahim, Dr. Madline Ibrahim and Abe Ibrahim. She is preceeded by her parents Robert and Cecelia Souther.
