Mary Pannullo

Mary Pannullo, of Mountainside, passed away on December 29, 2015 at the age of 96. After graduating from the Barbizon Modeling School, Mary studied voice in New York City under Maude Tweety and William Hermand with stars of the Metropolitan Opera Company. She joined the New Jersey Opera Company and sang the lead role of Hansel in the operetta “Hansel and Gretel”. She toured with Metropolitan Opera Stars, singing the role of Barbarina in Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro”. She also toured on “Annie Get Your Gun” as Mary Martin’s understudy, and performed at Carnegie Hall. She had her own radio program on WBHI.

After settling in Mountainside to raise a family, she remained active into her seventies, teaching piano and voice, and serving as choir director and church soloist at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside, and at St James the Apostle Church, in Springfield. She was also selected by the Federated Women’s Clubs of New Jersey to sing at their meetings.
