Loving Mother and Grandmother

Marjorie Evelyn Bash (nee Wolfe), a resident of Nashua, NH since 1999 and formerly of Springfield, NJ, died on April 10, 2014 in Nashua.

Born in 1923, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Augustus and Helen Marjorie (nee Douglas) Wolfe of West Orange, NJ. A sister of Helen and Richard Newton of Lacy Township, NJ and Frederick and Lorry Wolfe of Strafford, VT. Loving mother of Evelyn Bash of Clinton, MA; Janet Shannon of Milford, NJ; and Lois Hutchings of Maynard, MA. Grandmother of Elizabeth and Bruce Klemann of Concord, NH and Mark Sabatino who predeceased her; Thomas and Mary Shannon of Havertown, PA; Michael and Jill Shannon of Gillette, NJ; as well as Abigail Hutchings of Nashua, NH and Juliet Hutchings and her husband Mark Pickens who currently reside in Kigali, Rwanda. She also leaves behind 7 great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Upsala College in East Orange, NJ, with a degree in Mathematics. Marj worked as a computer programmer for Bell Telephone Laboratories, retiring in 1982. Her work there included support of many Defense Department projects and NASA’s Apollo Space Program, where she worked as a flight simulator programmer.

She was a long time member of the Springfield Emanuel United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer, financial secretary and first female Trustee. She also sang in the choir and acted as alternate organist.

Post retirement she enjoyed many years as a volunteer driver and Transportation Coordinator for the Red Cross in Summit, NJ as well as volunteering for SAGE both in Summit, NJ and Nashua, NH. She served as chairman of the Renaissance House Advisory Board, in Plainfield, NJ. During her years at the Hunt Community of Nashua, she volunteered as a pianist and served on the Residential Board.

In her free time she was an avid Scrabble player, an officer of the Millburn, NJ Scrabble Club and traveled to many national competitions throughout the country.

Family and friends may visit Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home at 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, on Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Springfield Emanuel United Methodist Cemetery, Springfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either, Smile Train, P.O.
