Margaret Mary Thomas (Peggy), formerly of Elizabeth and Millburn, NJ, passed away quietly on May 20, 2015 in Southern Pines, NC. She was 92. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, on July 9, 1923, Peggy was the eldest child of John Leo Thomas of New Brunswick and Mary Kate Hamilton of Molougha, County Clare Ireland.

Peggy began her career in nursing graduating from the Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing in 1945, where she remained an active alumni. After serving as Head Nurse in the Jersey City Medical Center Surgery Department and Wuester Tumor-Oncology Clinic in Hillside, Peggy began her lifelong passion in Occupational Health Nursing first at Esso Corp., offices in NJ and NY, then for 25 years as the Chief Nurse at ITT World HQ in NYC, retiring in 1985. Peggy was a member of the New York State Association of Occupational Health Nurses, American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, National Nurses Society of Alcoholism, National Nurses Society on Addiction, and elected to the Permanent Commission of International Association of Occupational Health Nurses. In 1983, Peggy was awarded the New York State Schering Occupational Health Nurse Award. Peggy was a long time communicant at St. Genevieve’s RCC in Elizabeth and St. Rose of Lima RCC in Short Hills. Peggy is pre-deceased by her brother James and nephew Patrick. She is survived by her brother John Thomas and his wife Lucille of Southern Pines, NC and their children: Patricia Thomas of West End, NC, Kevin Thomas (Laura) of Carmel, IN, Michael Thomas (Cecelia) of Nanuet, NY and John Thomas of Newton, NJ., and also by her sister-in-law Kathleen (Malone) Thomas of Bridgewater, NJ and their children: Michael Thomas of Milford, NJ, Christopher Thomas (Judith) of Milford, NJ, Collin Thomas (Shari) of Cresskill, NJ. Peggy was devoted to and beloved by her 8 nephews and nieces, 10 grand nephews and nieces, her great-grandnephew, her wonderful co-workers and numerous relatives. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 10 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Ave., Short Hills, NJ. Interment St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Visiting hours, Wednesday, 4 to 7 pm at the Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave, Springfield, NJ.
