Louise A. Benigno

Louise A. Benigno, 94, of Springfield passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on November 10, 2016. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 S. Springfield Ave. in Springfield on Monday, November 14th at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave in Springfield on Sunday, November 13th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.

Born and raised in New York City, the daughter of Joseph and Nancy (Mariano) Palumbo, Louise had also lived in Summit before moving to Springfield in 1955. A homemaker and a longtime parishioner at St. James, she was a “world class” baker and known for her legendary coffee crumb cake. She will be dearly remembered for her strong spirit, her unconditional love for all of her family, and her family gatherings–always around her kitchen table.

Louise was the beloved wife of the late Peter A. Benigno. She was the loving mother of Angela Funcheon and her husband James, John and his wife Monica (both deceased), Joseph and his wife Arlee, and Nancy. She is also survived by her 6 cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Jordano, John Benigno, Tara Benigno, Rebecca Funcheon, Brian Benigno , and Benjamin Benigno, her 5 cherished great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jessica, Brooke, Amanda and Luke. She was the loving sister to Anthony Palumbo and his wife Victoria (both deceased), Rudy Palumbo and his wife Angela, Arthur Palumbo and his wife Eileen, and Henry Palumbo and his wife Marie (deceased), and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was loved by her devoted caregivers, Bella Aboagye and Lorretta Prest. In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org).
