Lena DiMurro

Loving Mother & Family Matriarch

Lena DiMurro, (nee Muccia), 97, of Chatham, NJ, passed peacefully on September 8, 2018. Born and raised in Manhattan, Lena lived in Brooklyn for many years before moving to New Jersey in 2006.

Lena worked in Manhattan and was employed by Roosevelt Hospital for 20 years before becoming the office manager for Dr. Borecky until her retirement in 1997.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Vincent, her daughter, Virginia Grossman and great granddaughter, Samantha, her sister Catherine & her brother, Arthur. Lena is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony & Fran DiMurro, her brother, Dino, grandchildren, Paul, Debbie, Robert, David & Lisa, 8 great grandchildren, Tony, Brian, Randi, Chris & Sydney, Matthew, Amanda & Ethan, & 2 great-great grandchildren, Olivia & Elijah and nieces and nephews. After the death of her Daughter in 1980 she lovingly raised her 12 year old grandson David.

Family & cooking were Lena’s passion. She loved spending holidays and gatherings with her brothers Arthur & Dino, their wives Kitty & Faye and their families. Having her grandchildren spend weeks with her in the summer was a delight she cherished. Her tomato sauce is still legendary and was always the favorite of her grandchildren. Staying up late playing games, pancakes, tuna fish sandwiches, ice cream and loads of other simple things were always done with love and affection that seemed to make them so much more enjoyable.

After a fruitful active life, at the age, of 91 Lena took up residence in a nursing home where she quickly became a favorite of residents and staff. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers that provided such warm & loving care.
