Josephine Vitanza Turzi, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday May 13, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born November 6, 1933 in Messina, Italy, she was the daughter of Carmela and Nicolo Vitanza.
Josephine spent her younger years living in Italy along with a few years in Ethiopia where she loved the vibrant and unique culture. In 1954 she came to the United States with her family and settled in Astoria, New York. Josephine met Rocco Turzi at night school learning English and they were married on January 11, 1959.
Josephine is survived by her husband of 57 years Rocco Turzi: devoted children Francesca, Joseph (wife Helena), Nick and Patrick (wife Gina); 14 cherished grandchildren; dear siblings Gaetano Vitanza and Rose Vitanza Gugliemo (husband Vincent), many nieces and nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 15 from 2pm to 7pm at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 16 at 11am at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, 60 Whippany Road, Whippany, NJ. An Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
