Joseph E. Cooney

Joseph E. Cooney, 68, of Chatham, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Overlook Hospital, Summit. Born in Chicago, Joseph was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to New Jersey during grammar school. He has lived in Chatham for 38 years. Joseph worked for Verizon as a business analyst for 30 years, retiring in 2001. During retirement, he enjoyed working as a Chatham Township crossing guard. In addition, he was an active parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish in Chatham, having been the president of the Men’s Society, head usher, member of the Parish Council, and past manager of CYO Basketball. He was also a member of the Chatham Twp Board of Adjustment.

Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Edward J. Cooney and Evelyn Monk Cooney. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia, and two sisters, Eileen Martin and Kathy LaBombard. Joseph is also survived and missed dearly by his two daughters, Dr. Erin Qualter and her husband John and Bridget Noe and her husband Jason. He was a devoted grandfather to Peyton Noe and Sienna, Mia, and John Hudson Qualter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10am at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd, Chatham. Entombment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. There will be a visitation on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the Wm A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham.
