John W. Sippie

~~John W. Sippie (a.k.a. Sippi), age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 12th at his home in Mesa, Arizona. He was born on October 29th 1932 in Clifton, New Jersey to Frank Sippie and Frances (Bernard) Sippie, the oldest of four children. He grew up in Passaic, N.J. and graduated from Passaic High School in 1951. John served in the United States Navy from 1951 – 1955, in the “Seabees,” The United States Construction Battalion, and achieved the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer. He served most of his time overseas in Argencia, New Foundland, French Morocco and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After serving honorably he married his wife of 59 years, JoAnn (Cahayla) Sippie on February 2, 1957. He was a welder and worked for Midwest Piping and Magor Car and later worked in the chemical industry as a supervisor for Tenneco Chemical and Kalama Chemical. After retiring he worked for Hanover Township Public Schools as a Custodian for 7 years. Prior to moving to Sun City West, Arizona he and his wife JoAnn raised their family in Cedar Knolls, N.J. They lived at 39 Mountain Avenue from 1960 until 1998. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W., post 5351 in Hanover Township. He was a coach for Hanover Township Little League Baseball for many years, an assistant football coach and assisted with his sons hockey teams. He and JoAnn raised their family in the Catholic Church, having been members of Notre Dame Of Mount Carmel in Cedar Knolls, where he was also an adult advisor to the Antioch Teen program for many years. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of the Elizabeth Ann Seton, Knights of Columbus.

Predeceased by his father, Frank Sippie, his mother, Frances Sippie, his brother, Robert Sippie and his son, Frank P. Sippie. He is survived by is wife, JoAnn Sippie, his daughter Leslee Sippie Miratsky, and her husband Joseph, grandchildren, Joseph Miratsky, Jr. and Annalee Miratsky, his brother, Edwin Sippie and his wife, Joan; his sister, MaryAnn Scholts; sister-in-law, Josephine Sippie-Gora; and brother-in-law Richard Klima and his wife Deborah, along with many much loved nieces and nephews. John was a selfless man who always put his family first.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 9:30am at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, 75 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. There will be a visitation at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd, Whippany, on Friday from 4:30-7pm.
