John J. McLoughlin
08/12/1931 - 09/08/2016

~~John J. McLoughlin of Summit, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the age of 85.

Born at home in a thatched roof house on Corroforth Mountain in Leitrim Ireland, John walked daily to the Drumany School for his education when not working on the family farm. Eventually he left Ireland for England to pursue a license in health care. After spending time in England, he then immigrated to America in 1958. Upon arriving in America, John resided in Kearny, Bayonne, North Arlington, Orange and Springfield. Like so many other immigrants from Ireland at the time, John took solace in Irish dances, parades, the Irish American Society of the Oranges and just about anything related to Ireland. In doing so, he made lifelong friends always staying tightly woven in the fabric of his heritage. He also frequently traveled back to the “auld sod” to see family, friends and tour parts of Ireland outside of his beloved “Lovely Leitrim”.

John began his professional career at Prudential in Newark, leaving to run his own convenience store in Maplewood. Afterwards, he pursued a career in the restaurant industry working with Richard Tozzi and Bob Connelly in many of their new culinary ventures, including the Summit Squire. Finally, John then returned to his original passion working in health care for Sage Eldercare in Summit.

John was the beloved son of the late Patrick and Margaret McLoughlin and devoted father of Sean and his partner, Elizabeth of Chatham. He is survived by his brother Patrick and his wife Mary Ann of Corroforth Mountain, Ireland, brother Liam and his wife Wendy of Watford, England, his nephew Sean, and nieces Geraldine, Esther, Theresa and Fiona. John was predeceased by his beloved sister Esther and brother Christy.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the Bradley, Brough and Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Ave, Summit, NJ 07901. A mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 11:15AM at St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
