John A. Sonta, 71, of Mantoloking, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2017, in the presence of his three sons. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church, 75 Ridgedale Avenue. in Cedar Knolls on Thursday, May 4th at 10am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Friends are invited to visit the family at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road in Whippany on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm. Born in Hackensack and raised in Lyndhurst and North Caldwell, NJ, the son of William R. and Jeanette (Pedata) Sonta, John raised his family in Closter before moving to Curtis Point 25 years ago. After graduating West Essex High School, John attended Rutgers University, Newark and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. John enjoyed a long and successful career as president of the family’s business, Industrial Truck Body Corporation in Elizabeth, where he served as a respected leader in the industry. John enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his family and will be fondly remembered as a hardworking, dedicated, and inventive person who was always willing to help his family and friends in every way he could.

John was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Lombardo), who passed away in December 2016. Together, they were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June. He was the loving father of John Sonta, Jr., and his wife Eden of Convent Station, NJ; Jarret Sonta of Charleston, SC; and Justin Sonta and his wife Alyson of Middletown, NJ. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Katherine, Emma, John, Christian, Andrew, Justin and Nina; his dear siblings, Willette Greer and Jeffrey Sonta; as well as many loving relatives and friends. John was predeceased by his brother, William R., Jr. in 2016.
