Jean Adele Bensen

~~Jean Adele Bensen, formerly of East Hanover Township, died peacefully, and was taken to her heavenly home, on November 16, 2017. She was 85. Born in Jersey City to the parents of Charles & Borghild Thompson, Jean had one brother, Charles Thompson. Gladys (Jensen) became Jean & Charles’ stepmother after the passing of Borghild. Step-siblings Bruce and Beverly became a welcome addition to the family.

Upon graduation from Dickinson High School in Jersey City, Jean became a student of the Mountainside School of Nursing in Montclair, NJ where she received her RN degree in 1952. Jean’s first nursing job in a hospital setting was at Christ Hospital in Jersey City. Jean married Edward Bensen (West Orange, NJ) in June 1954, and moved to East Hanover. After raising 4 children (Bev, Barb, Mark and Alan), Jean continued her educational studies and received her BSN at Seton Hall University in 1983, and MA in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1998. Throughout her professional career, Jean enjoyed several corporate nursing positions while employed at Nabisco Brands, The National Burn Victim Foundation, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of New Jersey, Pfizer Healthcare and New York Life.

Jean was an active member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Essex Fells, NJ where she enjoyed singing in the choir, participating as Deaconess, and hosting memorable parties for church family and friends. She also served as volunteer member of the East Hanover First Aid Squad, and the Morris County Judiciary Juvenile Committee. Jean was an avid reader, enjoyed aerobics, and helping others. Jean will be fondly remembered by many for her loving kindness, a reflection of her love of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her grandchildren will always remember her as simply, “GJ”.

Jean is survived by her brother Charles and his wife Doris, sister in law Helen Olsen, daughter Beverly Streit and her husband Jim, daughter Barbara Teasdale and her husband Jim, son Alan and his wife Lisa, daughter-in-law Kimberly Bensen, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Jean is predeceased by her husband Edward, her eldest son Mark, and her grand-daughter Julie Teasdale.
