~~Henry William Jaeger, a former assistant prosecutor in the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, died on Wednesday, August 30, at Morristown Medical Center, of congestive heart failure. He was 76.
Henry was born February 2, 1941, in New York City, to parents who had emigrated from Germany after World War I. The family moved to New Providence, NJ, in 1950, and Henry graduated from Summit High School, and then from Rutgers University and the Rutgers School of Law.
Henry spent almost his entire legal career at the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, retiring as deputy first assistant prosecutor in 2009. Over the course of his 35 years at the Prosecutor’s Office, he tried every type of case, from white collar crimes to homicide. He was known for his mentorship of new prosecutors, his meticulous attention to the smallest detail that might affect a case, as well as his ability to respectfully and yet effectively elicit information from witnesses. He had a deep respect for the law and a genuine commitment to justice.
It was at the Prosecutor’s Office that Henry met his wife, Nell Rodgers Beaumont, a fellow prosecutor. In addition to Nell, he is survived by his son, Jason M. Jaeger. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Griess, and brother, Carl Jaeger; as well as his stepdaughters, Kathryn Beaumont Murphy, Jennifer Beaumont Wilfrid and Erin Beaumont; five nieces and nephews; and four grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, September 7, at 11 a.m., at Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Ave., Summit, NJ.
