G. James Picozzi

Gabriel James Picozzi, 99, died peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at his home in Summit, NJ.   Born in Summit, Gabe, or Jim as he was known to many friends, was a graduate of Summit High School and Georgia Tech in 1942. He served in the Navy in Pensacola, Florida. Gabe was a cost estimator for M.W. Kellogg Company in Jersey City and retired from his position as a Project Estimator for Lummus Industries in Bloomfield. His life was highlighted by an indomitable commitment to give back to his community. Gabe, along with his brother Victor, established the Picozzi Family Foundation which has assisted numerous disadvantaged children to further pursue their educational goals and achievements. The Foundation will continue its work in perpetuity. He was an Overlook Hospital Foundation Gold Level Distinguished Donor and a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans Commander Club, and The Old Guard in New Providence. Gabe was a longtime volunteer at the Runnels Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care in Berkeley Heights. Gabe is survived by his nieces Mary Ellen and her husband Dr. Stephen Barasch of Sunnyvale, California and Clare Hendrick of San Clemente, California; nephew Robert and his wife Carol Picozzi of Cheshire, Connecticut; great niece Victoria Barasch and her husband Dan Barr of Long Beach, California; and great nephew Michael Picozzi of Vernon, Connecticut. Gabe was pre-deceased by father Michael and mother Antonetta of Summit, brothers Carl of San Clemente, California and Victor of Summit, and sisters Phyllis Corle, Marie Picozzi, and Adeline Picozzi of Summit. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit. Interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, 136 Passaic Avenue, Summit. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bradley & Sons Funeral Home, 299 Morris Avenue, Summit.
