Life Legacy

Elva Marie Wenz of Union, N.J. passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2016. She was 96 years old.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church, 888 Stuyvesant Ave, Union, NJ 07083. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the church. An interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elva’s name to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Elva was born on December 31, 1919 in Newark, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lex and Nella (nee Libby) Bright. She graduated from Roselle Park High School in 1937. She met her husband in 1936 and was happily married for 79 wonderful years.

She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Union, NJ and a devoted member of Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church where she was married by Rev. Frederick Druckenmiller.

Some of her favorite pastimes included hosting holiday dinners and entertaining family and friends, cooking and baking, and spending time in her garden. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed decorating her home. She liked staying active by golfing, bowling, riding bikes, ice skating and roller rink skating.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 79 years, Robert D. Wenz, Sr., 101 years old, and by her sister Jean Stapperfenne. She was the loving mother of daughter; Elva R. Nugent and her husband, Theodore J.; sons; Robert D. Wenz, Jr. and Richard A. Wenz and his wife, Judith. She was the cherished grandmother “Mema” of Theodore R. Nugent and wife, Donna, Timothy J. Nugent and his wife, Laura, Elva-Marie Hilbert and her husband Craig; Lisa Knab and her husband, Kurt, Robert D. Wenz, III and his fiancée Melanie, Susan Wenz and her fiancé, Michael, and Bonnie Bravo and her husband, Louis. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; Timothy Nugent, Nicole Nugent, Kristen Nugent, Danielle Nugent, Olivia Knab, Taylor Knab, Robert Nugent, Riley Knab, and Louis Bravo as well as nephews Robert G. Stapperfenne and wife Joyce, Jack D. Stapperfenne and wife Mary, and Lex Spinden and his wife, Pat. She was predeceased by sisters the late Jennie Leonora Bright and Evelyn Spinden.

Elva was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who was loved by many and will be truly missed by those that knew her.
