Eleanor Reynolds Kerby, 89, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Winchester Gardens in Maplewood, NJ surrounded by her family.
Eleanor was born on October 15, 1926 in Orange, NJ.. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. and Mary Virginia (nee Craugh) Reynolds.
Eleanor was a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s College with a BA in English. She was a parishioner of St Teresa of Avila in Summit, NJ, and St. James Church in Basking Ridge, NJ. Eleanor and her husband Russ loved to travel and saw much of the world together. She won several ladies Club Championships in tennis at Canoe Brook Country Club and was a nationally-ranked paddle tennis player. One of her greatest pleasures was playing the violin with the Summit Symphony Orchestra for more than 50 years. Every summer of her life she spent time at her much loved cottage located on Keuka Lake in Penn Yan, NY.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Russell T. Kerby, Jr. She was the loving mother of six children, Stephen and wife Janet, James and wife Leslie, Kathleen Shanley and husband Daniel, Russell T. Kerby, III and wife Karen, Carolyn Licata and husband James and Christine Fitts and husband Andrew. She was also the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, who loved their “Mimi”; Jeff Kerby, Lindsay Kerby, Micky Kerby, Kerby Shanley, Natalie Kerby, Jonathan Kerby, Katherine Licata, Kevin Kerby, Brian Licata, Margot Fitts and Owen Fitts.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham, NJ 07928. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Saint James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. An interment will follow on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Penn Yan, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent in memory of Eleanor to Friends of the Summit Symphony, 100 Morris Ave., Summit, NJ 07901.
