Born and raised in Elizabeth, the son of Edward, Sr. and Josephine (Czajkowski) Hanbicki, Ed was a graduate of St. Benedicts Prep in Newark. He spent 2 years at Albright College in Reading, PA, prior to joining the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. After serving for 4 years as a radio operator and coder, he returned to Albright and earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics. He excelled playing football in high school and college – his varsity jacket still hangs in the Albright Stadium. Ed spent his career in sales in the computer technology field but was most proud of working after retirement as a substitute teacher at Governor Livingston High School and Union County Vocational-Technical Schools
(UCVTS). A long-time, active, parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes, he was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. After retirement, Ed and his late wife, Louise (Maragni), traveled extensively but most enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

Edward was the beloved husband of 54 years to the late Louise. He was the loving father of Theresa Schmedel (Rich), Edward Hanbicki, III (Susie Maxwell) and the late Lorraine Kretzmer-Lucarelli (Marco). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Lauren Kretzmer-Gall (Gabriel), Jonathan and Christopher Schmedel, step grandson, Cassidy Gonzales (Megan), and great granddaughter, Nivena Gall. His cherished grandson Andrew Kretzmer predeceases him. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edwards’s memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charity at www.dav.org.
