Dorothy G. LaReaux

Dorothy G. LaReaux (nee Galvin), aged 93, died peacefully at home on June 2, 2015. Born in Jersey City, she was a resident of Summit, N.J. for 58 years.

Mrs. LaReaux was a Clinical Social Worker at the Veterans Affair Medical Center, Lyons, NJ for 35 years. Prior to that she was the Chief Social Worker at the United States Public Health Clinic in New York City. During World War II she was a Red Cross Social Worker at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Long Beach, California.

A graduate of Notre Dame College of Staten Island (now St. John’s University) with a B.S. in Chemistry, she then received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University.

She is survived by Jacques, her husband of 62 years, a daughter, Kim (Harold Chayefsky), a son, Quin (Tracy) and 7 grandchildren; Jacques LaReaux, Colin LaReaux, Sarah LaReaux (Danny Sedge), Peyton LaReaux, Emma Chayefsky (Paul Stoddard), Eric Chayefsky, Carson Chayefsky and a great-granddaughter, Giada Sedge.

She was pre-deceased by her brothers Martin and George Galvin.

At her request, a private family celebration of her life was held and she will be enrolled in the Perpetual Prayer Society with the Dominican nuns of The Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center or Atlantic Home Care and Hospice of Morristown.
