Doris P. Julian

~~Doris Julian, 83, of Mountainside passed away at her home on December 25, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Central Ave, Mountainside, on Saturday, January 3rd at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at St. Teresa Cemetery in Summit. Friends are invited to visit at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave, Springfield on Friday, January 2nd from 4 to 8pm.

Born and raised in Irvington where she graduated from Irvington High School, Doris had also lived in Short Hills before moving to Mountainside in 1961. She was a graduate of Bucknell University with a degree in Music Education. Doris worked for many years as a music teacher in the Mountainside Elementary School system. In 1985 she was forced to retire after suffering a stroke, but persevered for 29 years as an active volunteer in Mountainside despite her physical limitations. Doris was a member of the Mountainside Music Association and volunteered at the Scotch Plains Thrift Shop, the Mountainside Public Library, Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside and the Jonathan Dayton HS library in Springfield. She was a classical pianist, an avid bridge player and loved to garden.

Doris was the beloved wife of 41 years to the late Gabriel Julian. She was the loving mother of Richard Julian, Robert Julian and his wife Linda, Amy Swencak and her husband Paul, and Wendy Tamborrino and her husband Robert. She was the cherished grandmother of Matthew, Michelle, Melissa, Anthony, Gabriella and Nicholas, and the dear sister of Barbara Kelshaw and her husband Harold.
