Born in Berkeley and raised in Los Angeles, California, Don had resided in Mountainside since 1966. He had served his country in the U.S. Army and the Reserves. Don earned his bachelor’s degree from Reed College in Portland, Oregon and his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. He conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University. Don was a medicinal chemist with Merck & Co., Inc., in Rahway for 36 years until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading.
Don was the beloved husband of 48 years to Patricia. He was the loving father of Christopher and his wife Erika and Colin and his wife Kristine. He is also survived by his cherished grandsons, Benjamin, Jackson and Vincent. Donations in Don’s memory may be made to Doctors Without Borders, Reed College or The Nature Conservancy.
