David Vidyadhar Sohan, 75, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family in the afternoon on Thursday, December 15th, 2016. The son of the Reverend Alfred Harpal Sohan and Elizabeth Moses, David was one of 7 children. He attended Corentyne High School in Guyana, and later Liverpool University in Liverpool, England where he studied Pharmacy. David immigrated to the United States with his wife Mata Sakti in 1974, where he initially resided in Queens, New York. While in New York they had three daughters, Elizabeth, Nadia and Mary. He and his family then moved to Cedar Knolls, New Jersey in 1988. David had a rewarding career as a pharmacist, retiring in 2009 from Morristown Memorial Hospital after 19 years of service. Much of David’s retirement was spent in his beloved vegetable garden. He loved the earth; he loved planting things and watching them grow. David loved his dogs, and enjoyed walking to Malapardis Park with his dog, Dudley. Reading the New York Times cover-to-cover every day he was also an avid New York Mets fan. David was a beloved member of Hildale Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Knolls. David’s family will miss his beautiful smile and his loud, infectious, joyful laugh. David was an excellent cook and his family will miss his signature dishes (especially his duck curry at the holidays). He loved traveling and enjoyed his last voyage touring around the Baltic Sea and Spain. David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mata Sakti Sohan (neé Boodhoo). He is the loving father of Elizabeth Mejia, Nadia and Mary Sohan, father-in-law of Felix Mejia, II, brother of Charles and Richard Sohan of New York, and has numerous nieces and nephews.
