~~Springfield Resident and Longtime Garwood Teacher

David J. Bernosky, 76, of Springfield passed away at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains on May 1, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 S. Springfield Ave in Springfield on Monday, May 4th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia. Friends are invited to visit at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave in Springfield on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm.

Born in Luzerne, PA, David was raised in Garwood, NJ. He received both his bachelors and masters degrees in education from Seton Hall University. David was a beloved elementary school social studies teacher in Garwood for 40 years until his retirement in 2005. A longtime parishioner at St. James the Apostle, he enjoyed reading and visiting historical places. “Mr. B” will be fondly remembered for his inspiration and devotion to both his family and students.

David was the beloved husband of 47 years to Nancy. He was the loving father of Christine DeFinis and husband Steve, and David, Jr. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Kelly, Nicole, and Daniel DeFinis and his brother Richard. He was predeceased by his older brother, Anthony, who died in the Korean War. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1900 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
