Mrs. Chiaravalloti, 82 of Whippany died on February 23 at home.
Born in Newark, she lived in Irvington before moving to Whippany 25 years ago.
A graduate of Jersey City Medical Center School of X-ray Technology, Mrs. Chiaravalloti worked for Orange Memorial Hospital as an x-ray technologist, prior to the birth of her first child.
She was a reporter for several years with the Irvington Herald and received the Frank Morrell High School Alumni of the Year Award in 1981 and a letter of commendation from the Irvington Board of Education for “excellence and objectivity” in her reporting.
As an Irvington resident, Mrs. Chiaravalloti was chairman of the Juvenile Conference
Committee, vice-president of the Friends of the Irvington Free Public Library, a 20-year member of the Board of Trustees of the Irvington Mental Health Center, a Den mother and a Den mother coach with St. Paul the Apostle School’s Boy Scout Troop and served on a number of civic ad hoc committees.
After moving to Whippany, she was a volunteer at the Morris Museum for nine years, volunteered in, and was later employed by the Hanover Township School system and was a tutor in the Literacy Volunteers of America program and a member of Hanover Township Senior Citizens.
She was a member of a Bible Study group and a Eucharistic Minister at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church.
She is survived by four children, Nancy and her husband Michael Cuminale, Linda and her husband Robert Luciano, James and his wife Susan, Robert and his wife Mariangela, and six grandchildren, Christopher and Lesley Cuminale, Lauren, Megan, Robert and Matthew Chiaravalloti.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Nicholas, her sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Gabriel Micchelli and her sister, Gloria Sabo.
A visitation will be Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany, NJ 07981. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls, NJ for Mrs. Claire Chiaravalloti. Entombment will follow in Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown, NJ. Donations may be made in her memory to the Whippanong Library, 1000 Rt. 10W. Whippany, NJ 07981, or any charity for the blind or hearing impaired.
