~~Claire R. Mehalik, 85, of Chatham Borough passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family on September 12, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 85 Washington Ave in Chatham on Thursday, September 17th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Fair Mount Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St in Chatham on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm.
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Newark, Claire was a longtime resident of Chatham. She had worked for Public Service Electric and Gas for 10 years prior to raising her three boys. Claire later returned to the workforce and joined Ciba-Geigy in Summit as an executive secretary. She retired in 1991 after 12 years of service. Claire was an active, longtime parishioner at St. Patrick’s including being a Eucharistic Minister, the Rosary Society, the Marion Prayer Group and the Companions of Pauline. She was also a member of the Chatham Seniors and the Minisink Swim Club. Claire enjoyed swimming, sewing, cross stitch, bridge and family vacations. She will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.
Claire was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late Eugene. She was the loving mother of Peter and his wife Nancy, John, and Robert. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Robert and Nicholas, great grandson Mark, and dear sister Alma Feitner. In lieu of flowers, donations in Claire’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis TN 38105.
