Cheryl Dianne Woolford

Cheryl Dianne Woolford (née Brookson), 71, beloved wife of David Woolford, passed away on May 14, 2017 after a brief illness. Their four children: Christopher (Melody), Tara (Philip Jennings), Andrew (Lindsay), and Kevin (Hu Yi Shan), five grandchildren (Owen, Hudson, Bryce, Brooke and Ethan), her brother, his wife and family survive her. Born in Montreal, QC, Cheryl grew up in Hamilton, ON where she met her husband of 47 years and was graduated from Hamilton Teachers’ College (now McMaster University). She and David lived in the Chicago area and Summit, NJ, before retiring to Stuart, FL. Cheryl’s generosity, compassion, humor, graciousness and positive attitude defined her. A talented elementary teacher who instilled the same love of learning in her children and grandchildren as in her students, Cheryl taught in the Hamilton area, Hyde Park (Chicago) and Summit. She was a skilled bridge player, puzzle buff, chorister and acted in musical comedies. From childhood, she spent summers at her Muskoka cottages, and passed her love of clean water, clear skies, pine and granite to her family. Cheryl loved frequent family gatherings, travel, surprises, and dogs, especially Boston and West Highland terriers. In later years, she took up golf and to her surprise, enjoyed it.

A Celebration of Life for Cheryl will be held Wednesday, May 24 at 10 AM at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 234 Southern Blvd, Chatham Township, NJ, where Cheryl was a longtime member of the Adult hand bell choir, followed by a reception at The Grand Summit Hotel, 570 Springfield Avenue, Summit, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Florida Oceanographic Society or the Muskoka Steamship and Historical Society.
