Cherie Vicedomini played racquetball every Wednesday until the month she died at age 87. She was known for her racquetball victories over her 22-year-old grandson, who shall remain nameless. A loving mother and grandmother to her three children and six grandchildren, she was always a positive and supportive force to all those around her.
Cherie was born in 1929 in Orange, New Jersey. She worked as a secretary at a law firm before marrying the love of her life, Amedeo Vicedomini, aka Jerry Vincent, in 1952. They raised their two sons and one daughter in The Court, a joyful cul-de-sac in West Orange, New Jersey where they were part of a tight-knit community of neighbors. They were well-traveled following the graduation of their youngest from college, and when Cherie applied for a US passport in her fifties, she discovered that her legal first name was in fact Frank, presumably because her father wrote his own name on the ‘Name’ line of her birth certificate, which provided family entertainment long after she fixed it. Cherie served as a perpetual babysitter, visitor, and pre-dinner-candy-supplier to her six grandchildren, and remained particularly close with them her whole life.
Cherie was a member of Saint Philomena’s Parish in Livingston, New Jersey.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Whirty and his wife Maryanne; her children, Rick Vicedomini and his wife Kristin Lindow, Brian Vicedomini and his wife Susan, Valerie Wimley and her husband Carl; her grandchildren, Eric Vicedomini and his fiancé Allison Webb, Jeremy Vicedomini and his wife Amburr, Martha Vicedomini and her wife Brenna, Sarah Platt and her husband Ryan, Kerry Wimley, and Kyle Wimley.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany, NJ 07981. A prayer service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 in the funeral home. An interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
