Loving Father & Grandfather

Charles J. Malone, 86, of Florham Park, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Charles was born on March 2, 1931 in Richmond, New York. He was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Harry A. and Frances (nee Sullivan) Malone.

He graduated from St. Peter’s High School in Staten Island, NY in 1948. He worked for Colgate Palmolive in Jersey City from, 1949-1951, before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Stationed in Germany, Charles served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1951-1953, and went on to serve 6 additional years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Beginning in 1954, Charles worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ for 39 years, having many positions from Instrument Maker to Group Supervisor of Security to Manager of Prototype Realization Center. In retirement, Charles was a school bus driver for the Florham Park Board of Education for a generation of kids and later a crossing guard for the Florham Park Police Department.

Charles was also a very active volunteer including: a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus (Henry Stolzenthaler Council, #1675) from his days on Staten Island, Junior Achievement Instructor (Bell Laboratories), equipment director for Florham Park Little League, coach for youth baseball and softball, secretary for Florham Park Sewerage Authority, member of American Legion Post 43, member of Lucent Retirees Organization and Pioneers of Bell Labs. He was a devoted a parishioner and usher at Holy Family Church.

Charles was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Kearns Malone, and five siblings, Patricia Malone, Harry “Buddy” Malone (WWII), Richard Malone, Frances Malone Vitomski, and Raymond Malone. He was the proud father of Charles J. Malone, Jr. and wife Kelly, James P. Malone and wife Megan, and Megan M. Broadhurst and husband Kenneth. He was the cherished grandfather of Shannon, Connor, Tara, Julie, Ryan and Casey. Also survived by his brother, James Malone and wife Barbara, sisters-in-law, Frances and Patricia Malone, brother-in-law William M. Kearns II and wife Ann, and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm & 7:00 to 9:00 pm. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham, NJ 07928. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 11:30 am at Holy Family Church, 1 Lloyd Ave. Florham Park, NJ 07932. An interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown, NJ.
