~~Betty Estelle Ward-Sims, 70 of Linden, NJ, passed peacefully on February 11, 2017. Born and raised in Virginia, Betty resided in Newark and Irvington before moving to Linden in 2004. Betty graduated from the Newark School Systems, and received her bachelor’s degree from Stevens Institute. She was Head of the Disability Division for the State of New Jersey, for over 30 years working out of the Newark office, she retired in 2006.
Betty is pre-deceased by her husband, George Henry Sims, her son Danny L. Ward, a brother, Joseph Word and a sister, Jerrely Patterson. Betty is survived by her son Giles L. Ward, her daughter, Charlyn Sims Scott, siblings, Giles Word, Beverly Word, Emma Word, Alliebee Watson & Maybell Word, her grandchildren, Derek, Moneshia, Danetta Smith & Skyla Jeter, Tahirah Scott and her goddaughter, Alicia Tillman.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 9 am to 10 am at the Antioch Christian Church, 28 Oliver Ave., New Brunswick, NJ., followed by a Funeral Service at 10 am. Interment Franklin Memorial Park Cemetery, North Brunswick, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s name may be made to:
