Benjamin Tedesco

Benjamin Tedesco, 96, formerly of Washington, NJ, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. Born November 4, 1921 in New Village, NJ, he was the son of Benjamin and Maria (Bruno) Tedesco.  He was a member of the graduation class of 1941 from Washington High School and was a former member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Washington.

In high school Ben was a competitive wrestler. In Washington/Warren Hills wrestling history he was the first undefeated wrestler in dual meets, three-time district champion, first wrestler to make the state finals placing second in 1939, and a three-year participant in the state tournament making the quarter, semi, and state finals. In May 2018, he was inducted into the Blue Streak Wall of Fame. After graduating from high school, Ben enlisted in the Navy and served in Europe and Asia during World War II.  With duty in China, he served in a special operations group, SACO, Sino American Cooperative Organization.

For many years Ben was a brave and bold volunteer firefighter in Washington. He was a member of the Washington Borough Volunteer Fire Department Truck Company Number 2 from 1954 to 1963. Beginning in 1963, he was a member of the Washington Borough Exempt Fireman’s Association, and an auxiliary member of the Washington Borough Emergency Squad. Ben retired from Elastimold – Thomas & Betts, Hackettstown, NJ in 1986.

Ben is survived by his daughter, Dr. Lisa A. Tedesco (with whom he resided), son, Frederick D. Tedesco and wife Karen of Succasunna, NJ, granddaughters, Amelia “Mimi” Kuehn of San Francisco, CA, Anna “Coco” Kuehn Kaminski and husband David of Media, PA, Dr. Dana C. Tedesco and husband Dr. Luca Micci of Burlingame, CA, Allison N. Tedesco Tischio and husband Nicholas Tischio of El Paso, TX and great-grandsons Brady James Kaminski and Carson David Kaminski. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his sister in law, Arlene Taborelli Tedesco.  Ben’s wife of 68 years, Ann M., preceded him in death in 2016.  He was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Joseph Tedesco, Christina Tedesco Bracco, his twin sister Grace Tedesco Maloney, Ann Tedesco Stecker, and Michael Tedesco.

The family expresses deepest appreciation to Vanessa Reid and Angelia Boddie, Nurse Rosalyn Perteet, and Kindred Hospice for their extraordinary care and loving support. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10 am in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 200 Carlton Avenue, Washington, NJ.  Inurnment will follow at the Montana Mountain Cemetery.
