Alice A. Sysko

Alice Anne Sysko, (nee: Rakoczy) 90, of Union, passed away on May 22, 2017 at home. Alice was born on July 26, 1926, in Dickson City, Pennsylvania to Anthony and Francis (Metz) Rakoczy. She moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1941, and married Edwin Sysko, to whom she was married for 40 years until his death in 1991. Alice is survived by her sons Leonard and Raymond Sysko; and many nieces nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her 8 brothers and sisters, Louis, Walter, Edmund, John and Leonard Rakoczy and Helen Soliwoda, Irene Interdonato, and Pearl Heath. Alice worked at C.T. Williamsons during the War, and was also employed for many years at Revlon, Acme and Food Town Markets before retiring in 1989. She was a Eucharistic minister at Christ the King Church in Hillside, and a member of the choir at St Stanislaus Church in Newark. She enjoyed dancing, and was a volunteer at the USO Dances during World War II. Alice also loved cooking, baking, gardening, and in her later years she took great interest in artwork.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:15am at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Avenue, Union. Contributions in memory of Alice may be made to the Union Emergency Medical Unit, 2493 Vauxhall Rd., Union NJ 07083.
