~~Aida Batista, 89, of Westfield passed away on February 13, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Avila, 306 Morris Ave in Summit on Saturday, February 17th at 10:45am. Interment will follow at St. Teresa Cemetery. Born in Holguin, Oriente, Cuba, the daughter of Ramón and Aida (De La Peña) Rodríguez, Aida immigrated to the United States in 1965. First settling in Basking Ridge, she also lived in Summit before moving to Westfield in 1995. Aida earned her undergraduate degrees and Doctorate from the University of Havana. She had worked for many years in Cuba as a school principal and later as a Spanish teacher in Basking Ridge and as a lab technician for C.R. Bard, Inc. in Murray Hill. Aida enjoyed cooking, dancing and classical piano. She will be fondly remembered for her love and dedication to her family, and her compassion to help others.

Aida was the beloved wife of 67 years to the late Ricardo Batista. She is survived by three children Aida M.B. Strasser, Ana Maria Verrusio and Ricardo J. III., and 10 grandchildren, Christopher Strasser, Arielle Thompson, Michael Verrusio, Rick Batista IV, Justin Batista, Noelle Verrusio, Vincent, Michael, Brittany & Nicholas Ingrassia.
