William Peter Irish

William Peter Irish, 86, of Vero Beach, FL and Morris Township, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 after a long illness.

Peter was born on July 20, 1931 in White Plains, New York and raised in Scarsdale, NY. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. and Elizabeth (nee McCormack) Irish.

Peter was a 1949 graduate of Scarsdale High School and was a graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Peter started his career at Leonard J. Beck in New York, NY in commercial real estate. In 1958, he began his 35 year career on Wall Street beginning at Merrill Lynch and went on to work at A. G. Becker & Co., Baker & Weeks, Co., and White Weld & Co. In 1977, he started working for Alex. Brown & Sons, Inc. and 19 years later retired as a Principal-Head of Equity Trading. After retiring, Peter served on the board of Family Service of Morris County, now known as Cornerstone Family Programs.

Peter was a parishioner on Corpus Christi Church, Chatham, NJ and Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, FL. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, running and playing tennis. William was an avid reader and liked to solve crossword puzzles, and he was a huge sports fan!

Peter is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan R. Irish. He was the cherished father of P. Andrew Irish of Morris Township, Elizabeth Shi (Tommy) of Chatham Township, Joan Farren (Clifford) of St. Davids, PA, Mary Burlingame (John) of Miami, FL, Anastasia Mondelli (John) of Morris Township and the loving grandfather of 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John J. Irish of Bay Head and his sister, Liz Keyser of Chicago.

He was a gentle man who touched the lives of those around him.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham, NJ 07928. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd., Chatham Township, NJ 07928. Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Cornerstone Family Programs, 62 Elm Street, Morristown, NJ 07960 or Villanova University, 800 Lancaster Ave, Villanova, PA 19085.
