~~Willard E. Shearin, Jr., 91, of New Providence passed away on May 24, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church at New Providence, 1307 Springfield Ave in New Providence on Wednesday, May 31st at 11:00am. Born in Covington, Virginia, the son of Willard and Myrle Shearin, Will also lived in Roanoke, VA and Harrisonburg, VA before moving to New Providence in 1963. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Chemistry. Will proudly served his country during WWII, including 30 missions on a B17 with the 379th Bomber Group in the 8th Air Force. He worked as a chemist with Merck and Company for over 30 years until his retirement in 1990. An active member of the Presbyterian Church at New Providence, including serving as Deacon and Elder, Will was also a member of the Audubon Society and the Summit Old Guard, volunteered at the Great Swamp and enjoyed sailing and vacationing on the Maine coast.
Will was the beloved husband of 56 years to the late Marie. He was the loving father of Tom Shearin and Michael Shearin. He is also survived by his dear friend Marge Lanning as well as many loving relatives.
