Warren S. Sim

~~Warren Spencer Sim, age 87, died on November 6, 2014 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was a great American, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Veteran and friend with a loving heart, warm smile and kindly soul.

Warren was born October 4, 1927 in the Bronx, New York, the only son of James & Helen Sim.

Educated in the New York City school system and graduated from Stuyvesant High School, he was active in the Boy Scouts and became a Life Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served on the USS Casa Grande LSD13 near the end of World War II. This was followed by many years in the Navy Reserve.

His entire career was in book publishing; first with Simon & Schuster then 28 years with Grolier Educational Corp. where he was Director of Sales Services. He retired at the end of 1991.

In 1998, he joined the Old Guard of Summit where he was the Director in 2005 and elected a Life Member in 2008.

For many years he was the Chaplin and Service Officer of American Legion Post 228.

At the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee. He was also a longtime volunteer at Overlook Hospital.

He is survived by Jean, his wife of 64 wonderful years, by his three daughters Janet Dean and her husband, Keith, of Wilmington, Delaware; Deborah Mikijanic and her husband, Eugene, of New Providence, New Jersey; and Nancy Kilroy and her husband, Kevin, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. He was the loving grandfather of Kirsten Dean Weigert, Brittany Dean, James Mikijanic, Kate Kilroy and Rebecca Kilroy and great-grandfather of Colin Weigert.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 1:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, 210 Morris Ave. Springfield NJ 07081. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Warren’s name to the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield.
