Veronica Rita Burke, devoted and loving wife of Kieran J. Burke for 62 years, died peacefully in Florida on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 after a brief illness.

A long time resident of Boynton Beach, Florida and previously Pearl River, NY, Mrs. Burke (formerly Veronica Moore) was born in Manhattan, NY on June 23, 1926. One of 12 children of John and Anna Moore, both Irish immigrants, she grew up in New York City, graduating from Cathedral High School and subsequently working for the New York Telephone Company.

On September 27, 1952, Veronica married Kieran J. Burke, a now retired detective from the New York City Police Department. Together they had four children, Michael K. Burke of Greenwich, CT, Ann Marie Burke of New York City, Kieran E. Burke of Summit, NJ and Veronica Thomas of Dallas, TX. Besides raising her four children, Veronica managed a card and gift shop in Montvale, NJ, was active in the Catholic Church, loved to dance and was an avid card player, enjoying bridge and pinochle until the end of her life.

In addition to her husband and children, Mrs. Burke is survived by two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Susan Daniello Burke and Adeline Storey Burke, a son-in-law, Richard Thomas, and eight grandchildren, Kieran J. Burke, Clare S. Burke, Anna R. Burke, James S. Burke, Emma Burke, Terence Burke, Connor Thomas and Jacqueline Thomas. Mrs. Burke is also survived by two brothers, Richard Moore and Frank Moore, and three sisters, Dolores Spitz, Eileen Dominczak and Lillian Moore.

Mrs. Burke is being waked from 3-6pm on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home at 309 Springfield Street, Summit, NJ 07901. A funeral mass will be said at 9:30a.m. on Monday 22, 2014 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901. An interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
