Theresa C. Stapleton
04/29/1939 - 04/23/2019

Theresa Stapleton, of Springfield, passed away at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville on April 23, 2019 just shy of her eightieth birthday.

Theresa was born on April 29, 1939 in Jersey City to the late Edward and Mary Bowens. She was a graduate of Holy Family Academy in Bayonne. Theresa lived in Springfield for over 40 years. She was an active member of St. James School’s PTA before working as the assistant tax collector in Springfield for 24 years, retiring in 2011.

Theresa was an avid crafter and collector. Friends and family were the recipients of countless hand-crafted gifts. Many weddings were made all the more beautiful due to her gorgeous pew bows and floral arrangements. Everything she made was a gift of love. Theresa was proud of her Irish heritage and was fortunate to have found a group of dear friends with whom she was able to share many a grand time!

Theresa was predeceased by her loving husband and dance partner, George M. Stapleton, her beloved daughter Marianne, and brother Rev. Edward J. Bowens.  She is survived by her cherished son Peter M. Stapleton, sister Eileen Connolly, brother John Bowens and his wife Susan. She was an incredible aunt to nieces, Mary Beth Olbrys, Maureen Baach and Megan Connolly and nephews Ryan & Kevin Bowens and Paul Stapleton and a wonderful cousin, in-law, great-aunt and friend. Theresa will be fondly remembered by many for her kind and generous soul.
