Ruth Dehmer Young, 95, of Manasquan NJ passed away on April 5 at Sunnyside Manor in Wall. Ruth was born In Newark, grew up in Maplewood where she graduated from Columbia High School in 1942. She went to work for what was then New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. in Newark in the Accounting Department. While working there she met her future husband, Jack Young, who she married in Short Hills in 1950. She was a resident of Chatham Township for over 50 years where she and her husband were founding members of the Corpus Christi R.C. Parish. She spent weekends and summers in Manasquan beginning in 1966 and moved full time in 2009. During the final 3 years of her life she received loving care and support from the staff at Sunnyside Manor. Arrangements were handled by the William A. Bradley & Sons Funeral Home, Chatham.
She was predeceased by her parents Louis and Emily Dehmer (Zirkel) and her brother, Raymond Dehmer, as well as her husband Jack Young. She is survived by her son Bob, daughter-in-law Helen, granddaughter Megan of Manasquan, her sister-in-law Mae Dehmer of Clifton Park NY and cousins Emily Zirkel of Manasquan and Lois Wooster of Wake Forest NC. Ruth devoted her life to her family caring for her ailing mother in the final years of her life and spending time with her beloved granddaughter at every opportunity. She relished sitting on Riddle Way beach chatting with friends or taking walks to the Manasquan inlet. She was quiet but friendly in nature, always polite and enjoyed giving meaningful complements. In light of the current pandemic, services will be private for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to St. Denis Church, 90 Union Ave. Manasquan, NJ 08736.
