Roger Rogalin
06/20/1949 - 06/14/2024

In loving memory of Roger Rogalin, who passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born in New York City in 1949 and raised in Glen Rock, NJ, Roger’s life was a testament to kindness, intelligence, and compassion.

Roger’s journey began with education at Bergen Catholic High School, followed by Fairfield University and Seton Hall University, where he nurtured his love for learning and community.

Roger’s career path was as varied as it was fulfilling, starting with teaching high school biology and subsequently pharmaceutical sales – or as he jokingly put it, “sold drugs in the Bronx”. Roger had a distinguished 30-year tenure in the publishing industry. It was his publishing career that provided him the opportunity to help author the best-selling high school biology book “Modern Biology”. During his years of business travel, Roger had the unique privilege of meeting many politicians, celebrities, and notable figures – all cataloged in his infamous spreadsheet. As an Adjunct Instructor at Seton Hall University, Roger shared his knowledge and passion for education with future generations. However, it was his role as Principal of Packanack Elementary School in Wayne, NJ, that brought him the greatest joy and purpose, where he touched the lives of students, families, and colleagues alike.

Outside of work, Roger was a true renaissance man. He had a passion for photography, all forms of art, and he was an avid supporter of sports, particularly baseball and his wife’s softball team. A self-proclaimed foodie, Roger enjoyed cooking and grilling, always expertly pairing the perfect wine with any meal. His love for the perfect gin martini, complete with three olives, was well-known among his friends and family. Roger found joy in the great outdoors, whether hiking, biking, canoeing, sailing, or gardening. His favorite place to find solace was by the ocean, with his feet in the sand, especially in the shores of Cape May, NJ.

Roger’s love for his family was unparalleled. He adored his wife Jeanne, his children Eric Rogalin, Sara Coley (Matt), Andrew Rogalin (Lynn), Dylan Rogalin, Liam Rogalin, stepchildren Meg Neville (Conor), John Peckham, and grandchildren Sophie, Henry, and Nora, who all were quite patient with his constant barrage of Dad jokes! Roger is also survived by his brother Michael (Tiffany) as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs, Junior and Sadie. Roger’s devotion and pride in his family were evident to all who knew him, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Throughout his courageous battle with cancer, Roger maintained his trademark positivity and never once dwelled on his own hardships. He considered himself incredibly fortunate to have lived such a rich and fulfilling life surrounded by love. Roger’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, warmth, and unwavering compassion.

In honoring Roger’s memory, let us celebrate his life with joy and gratitude. Cheers to you, dear Roger—husband, father, educator, and friend. Your spirit will continue to inspire us all to live with kindness and generosity, just as you did.
