- 07/12/2012

Chandler, Robert Megee, 67, died peacefully on Thursday, July 12th, with his family by his side.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., Bob was one of four children. After HS, he attended Emory University where he would earn a BBA and MAT in physical education. After, he moved to New Orleans, and would travel to NJ for the summers to play softball with friends. It was during this time that he met Barbara Kloss. Several years later, the two were married, settled in Millburn, NJ and “Chandler” would begin his teaching career at Madison High School. Coach Chandler, as he was known to many, would spend 30 years as a teacher, coach, friend and mentor to many. His love for education, sports and his students made it easy for him to be a favorite amongst the school community. Famously known for his dedication to the Madison High School soccer, baseball and basketball teams, it is hard also not to forget the “one liners” that Bob would shout out to his students. Coach Chandler proudly won two State Championships for Madison HS soccer, as well as multiple “Coach of the Year” Awards, including the Otto Haas Coaching Award for soccer. Outside of Madison, he was inducted into the Emory Sports Hall of Fame and the Millburn High Athletic Hall of Fame. When he wasn’t “bleeding maroon and gold”, he could be found at home with his family. He enjoyed music very much, reading & movies, and simply spending time with his family. Pre deceased by his father, the Late R. Carl Chandler, Robert is survived by his wife Barbara of 30 years, sons Robert Jr. and Richard; mother Sarah Megee Chandler, siblings Carla, David & Craig Chandler; and many other loving relatives, friends, students and colleagues. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory be made to Madison High School, Bob Chandler Scholarship Fund, 359 Woodland Rd, Madison, NJ 07940.
