Robert “Bob” Cole, 84, died peacefully on December 20th at Berkeley Heights Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 1, 1927, the son of Emil and Louise Cole. Bob grew up in Newark. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country as a gunner’s mate on the Destroyer Escort US Robert E. Peary in Europe after WWII. Following his service, he worked as a salesman for NJ Tobacco, later renamed Metropolitan Distributors for over 45 years. He was a resident of New Providence for the last 56 years. He was an exceptional gardener, always ahead of the curve using organic growing methods. Bob loved his family dearly, and always put the needs of others first before his own.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy in 1991; he is survived by his sons Robert (Kelley) and David (Nanette); his grandchildren Jessica, David, Rachel, Erica, and Robbie; his sister Muriel Brewer; and many other dear relatives and friends.
