Robert L. “Bob” Brehm, 86, of Summit, New Jersey passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at King James Care Center, Chatham, NJ.

Bob was born on September 27, 1927 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Helen (nee Bachman) Brehm.

He served in The United States Army during World War II. Bob received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He worked for Exxon Research as a Project Engineer on energy expansion projects throughout the world.

He enjoyed building model boats, photography, and woodworking. He loved opera and classical music. He was a member of the Old Guard, a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, and the Ship Model Society of New Jersey. Bob enjoyed traveling and one of his sayings was, “ I’ve lived in twenty-seven countries in thirty-seven years.” He spoke five different languages and was a life-long student of history and culture.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Mary W. Brehm. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Lyle Rea Brehm. He was the father to his daughter, Patricia Barry of Katonah, NY, his son, Robert P. Brehm of Tualatin, OR and their spouses; step-sons: William Fisher of Cheshire, CT, Richard Fisher of Poughkeepsie, NY, and step-daughter, Carol Wittemann of Hinsdale, IL and their spouses. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Richard, Katherine, Peter, David, Christine, Richard, Phebe, Charles, Benjamin, and Claire.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November, 9, 2013 at the Central Presbyterian Church, 70 Maple Street, Summit, NJ 07901. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church.Memorial Fund.
