~~Richard Lee Whipple, 85, of Summit, NJ, passed peacefully on January 8, 2017. Born and raised in Scottsbluff, NE, Richard spent the majority of his life and raised his children in the Boston, MA area, and in St. Johnsbury, VT. He retired to Beaufort, NC where he lived almost 20 years before moving to California in 2004, and then to New Jersey a few months ago.
He served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He then went to Purdue University, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in 1958, and proceeding to a 40 year career in Engineering / Management. Richard was a Mason, a former member of the Beaufort Rotary, a member and choir member of the First United Methodist Church, Morehead City, NC, an active volunteer (including for the Tall Ships and Ft. Macon), and lover of photography, local theatre and sports.
Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy K. Whipple (nee Fedel), a former teacher at St. Egberts Catholic School, and his three children Wendy Swanton (William), Laurie Wilson (Robert) and Richard Jr. (Deepa), as well as six grandchildren.
