Orlando Zega

Orlando J. Zega, a longtime resident of Reynolds Avenue in Whippany, NJ passed away peacefully on 03/31/2015 at the age of 100 and 9 months.

Orlando Zega was recently featured in a Daily Record Article about the growing number of people living past the century mark in Morris County. He remembered when Route 10 was a one lane dirt road!

Orlando Zega , an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, was an Airplane Inspector stationed at the AAF Overseas Replacement Depot in Kearns, Utah. After the service, he married Marianina Cavallaro, built his home on Reynolds Avenue and raised 3 sons. He worked as a machine tender at the Whippany Paper Mill. Orlando Zega loved golf and played a full 18 holes of whenever he could, and once had a hole in one. He always walked the full 18 holes, never using a golf cart, and he played for as long as he was physically able.

Predeceased by his wife Marion and his son Patrick, he is survived by his 2 sons, Robert and Douglas and his wife Darlene; 5 grandchildren, Thomas and his wife, Carmela, Jeffery, Amanda, Desiree and Darren and his wife Ashley; and 3 great grandchildren, Alexandra, Nicholas and James (JD).

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, 100 Whippany Rd., Whippany. Entombment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown. There will be a visitation on Tuesday from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd., Whippany.
